Slated for opening this June, the Mactan Cebu International Airport Terminal 2, dubbed as the world’s first “airport resort,” is now 91 percent complete.
This is according to GMR Megawide Airport Corporation (GMCAC) Chief Executive Adviser Andrew Harrison, who also added that they have initiated the countdown until the airport’s opening to the public set in June.
The countdown officially started the event called “The Final Countdown” on March 12 at the MCIA’s Lounge 26, with Lapu-lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza, MCIA general manager Steve Dicdican, Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera, Department of Tourism Region 7 Director Shalimar Tamano, GMCAC President Louie Ferrer, and MCIA board members, stakeholders, and airport community members in attendance.
They already have a specific date, June 6, for the new airport terminal’s grand opening, said Ferrer. He added that they were hoping President Rodrigo Duterte could attend it, along with foreign dignitaries.
The event also launched the MCIA’s new brand with the line “Experience the Warmth of Cebu.”
The opening of Terminal 2 will open Cebu to accommodating 4.5 million passengers every year and will likely lead to a boom in the island province’s tourism industry.
