It is true that Cebu has a lot of amazing waterfalls, judging from all the social media posts of everyone who enjoyed visiting them. Needless to say, with all the attention these waterfalls are getting, a lot of tourists are already flocking to bathe in the fresh and cooling water. If crowded places aren’t your thing, you can always take the least beaten path and explore these least visited waterfalls
1. Kabutongan Falls, Malabuyoc
Kabutongan Falls is in Barangay Looc, Malabuyoc. Trekking to the falls is a great challenge and beginners are advised not to take the gamble since the slopes are really slippery and the water can go waist-deep. There are some parts where one needs to swim pools and hop on boulders. Once the hard part is over, visitors are greeted by a beautiful waterfall. They can swim in the smaller pools or take a dip in the main pool.
2. Udlom Falls, Pinamungajan
Pinamungajan has two waterfalls that adventure-seekers should check out – Sinungkulan and Udlom Falls in Barangay Lamac. The trek to the waterfalls is easier compared to other waterfalls in this list but the stories are worth noting. The valley where the two falls are located was where it rained ice in the year 2012. It is a really cold place that is worth visiting, especially in the scorching summer heat.
3. Mangitngit Falls, Carmen
If you’ve heard about all the exciting new tourist spots in Carmen, chances are you have also heard about alternative adventure destinations like Mangitngit Falls. The falls was once closed due to a landslide in 2007 but it was opened a few years after. Now, some visitors of this quiet town would never want to miss visiting the lush vegetation that unveils a rush of cool water.
4. Batad-Batad Falls, Moalboal
Batad-Batad Falls in Moalboal is a horsetail waterfall that has a space underneath where guests could go under to feel the rushing water massaging their bodies. Is there anything more relaxing than a quiet place and a great natural massage?
5. Kampael Falls, Ginatilan
Kampael Falls is close to Bugnawan Falls. It has a height of around 15 meters and has a small catch basin where visitors take a dip and enjoy the cool waters. It is surrounded by rocks and boulders, which make it even more picture-perfect. Visitors can stand atop these stones to get a better view of the falls.
6. Tubod-Duguan Falls, Dumanjug
Also known as Pityak Falls, Tubod-Duguan is located in the boundary of Barangays Tubod-Duguan and Kanghalo. It is relatively unexplored and unexploited so visitors must bring food and water if they visit the falls. It is relatively accessible as a cemented way has been made to cater to visitors.
7. Bagatayam Falls, Sogod
Bagatayam Falls is a very accessible waterfall that is conveniently located near the national highway. Apart from being a favorite of visitors who want to cool down especially in the extremely hot temperatures these days, the waterfall is also the water source – drinking, cooking, washing, and cleaning – of the locals.
8. Igotan Falls and Cave, Talisay
Are you yearning for an extreme adventure? In Talisay, a cave that used to be a hideout of Japanese troops during the war is attracting visitors, despite rumors of it being haunted by spirits. This cave mystifies visitors especially because at the end of the gruelling adventure, you’ll find a beautiful and therapeutic waterfall. Igotan Falls and Cave is such a lovely adventure that adrenaline junkies shouldn’t miss.
9. Kan Amno Falls, Boljoon
Kan Amno Falls is located in Lower Becerril in Boljoon Cebu. Trekking towards this marvellous waterfall is a challenge. Visitors should have strong knees and stamina so they will not go down the river bed with huge boulders. What sets it apart from other waterfalls is that the water cascades ever so thinly on a rock so it is like bathing in the rain. The place alone is more than enough to make you forget about stress.
10. Tinubdan Falls
Tinbudan Falls is situated in the northern town of Catmon. It was said to have been developed by the Americans during World War II for as a source of electricity. Just be prepared to trek, crawl, swim, and balance, especially with the slippery rocks, all throughout your exploration of the falls and you’ll be rewarded.
