With Boracay Island’s planned closure, the province of Cebu may soon become the next top tourist destination in the Philippines, according to a European trade group on March 24.
Guenter Taus, the chair of the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, said that with the looming closure of Boracay Island, tourists will look for alternatives and Cebu is on top of the list.
The ANC quoted him as saying, “If I look forward, around a year or 2 or 3, I believe Cebu will be the hub of choice.”
He explained further that Cebu has direct flights to international and local destinations, which is an advantage to travelers. He also mentioned that Cebu is more than the heart of the Visayas, it also has different water sports and water attractions.
